Medical workers and patrons of the region were awarded in a solemn atmosphere in Gomel. We are proud to note that Sergei Khakhomov, Rector of Gomel State University, and Aleksey Zaitsev, PhD student of the Faculty of Physics and IT, were awarded the Certificate of Honor for their social activism, heartfelt response to the most difficult epidemiological situation in the country, and a great personal contribution to support of medical workers in the Gomel Region. The leadership of the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University promptly responded to the epidemiological situation: the training schedule and work schedule were adjusted, training using information and communication technologies was successfully introduced, and disinfectants were installed in all buildings, hostels and food outlets. Besides that, the support of medical workers of the region became an important area. The Faculty of Physics and IT set up the production of protective front screens, more than 2500 of them were transferred to medical institutions, university dormitories, the security service of the university, the selection committee.
The assistant professor of the department of the Belarusian language Svetlana Vergeenko, with the support of staff and students, sewed masks and handed them over to the Gomel regional children's clinical hospital. Teachers and students of the Faculty of Psychology and Pedagogy collected food, fruits, juices, paper towels and personal hygiene products to help the medical workers of the Gomel Regional Tuberculosis Hospital and City Clinical Hospital # 1. The trade union committees decided to spend part of the material aid fund on personal protective equipment. All of the above confirms the solidarity of the staff of the Skorina State University and the ability to timely respond to the challenges of society.
