A quiz “Monuments and memorable places dedicated to the history of World War II as part of the historical and cultural heritage ” among students on the history subject, prepared by the Department of the History of Belarus. This is the first event in our university dedicated to the International Day of Monuments and Historical Sites (World Heritage Day), which is celebrated annually in different countries of the world. The quiz was held jointly with the Gomel Regional Committee of the Public Association “Belarusian Republican Youth Union”.
The aim of the quiz was to renew the historical memory of student and union youth, to popularize knowledge about the events and results of World War II. The questions of the quiz covered the following subjects: perpetuating the memory of the Great Patriotic War in the Gomel region (memorial complexes "Ola", "Dalva", a memorial complex at the site of the deployment of the partisan detachment "Bolshevik"), a tribute to the victims of the Holocaust in the world, characteristics of monuments built to the honor of heroes , who fought at the fronts and participated in the resistance movement in Europe and Asia, showing the role of women in the fight against fascism, the tragic fate of children in wartime.
More than 350 students from 11 higher educational institutions of Gomel, Mozyr, Vitebsk, Brest and Novozybkov (Russia) took part in the quiz. The jury recognized Daria Taratynova (F. Skorina Gomel State University), Igor Kolosov (Gomel branch of the MITSO International University) and Sergey Dyachenko (Branch of the Bryansk State University named after Academician I. G. Petrovsky in Novozybkov) as laureates.
Thanks to the appeal to the perpetuation of the memory of the Second World War, the event not only focused the attention of young people on the extremely important problems of our time, but also initiated further educational activities of students in the field of military history. The involvement of young people in the discussion of issues of national and world history plays a decisive role in the formation of the personality and the development of a civic position of each person in the conditions of information pressure in the world with more frequent cases of distortion of the historical past.
