Within the framework of the signed cooperation agreement between the Russian International Academy of Tourism (Russian Federation) and the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University (Republic of Belarus) the acquaintance took place – the first event in the videoconference mode, at which the potential of both higher educational institutions was presented, as well as a lecture in English on the academic discipline "Theory of intercultural communication" was held.
The Vice-rector for Academic Affairs of GSU, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Pr. I.V. Semchenko addressed the participants of the event from the Belarusian side with a welcoming speech. Igor Semchenko spoke about the educational potential of Gomel State University and the historical features of its formation.
The Faculty of History and Intercultural Communications of Gomel University was presented by Stanislav Charopka, Dean of the Faculty, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor.
Elena Alilujko is the Vice-Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Tourism Management, Professor of the Department of Foreign Languages and Foreign Country Studies. She spoke on behalf of the Russian side about the academic potential and international programs of the Russian International Academy of Tourism.
Then, in an interactive mode, Tatiana Efremceva, Head of the Department of Foreign Languages and Foreign Country Studies, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, associate Professor, gave a lecture in English “The cultural imperative: the Lewis Model of Cultural Types". The lecture examined the features of Richard D. Lewis's concept of intercultural diversity, the typology of cultures and trends in the development of world cultures in the XXI century.
The participants of the interactive lecture were 2nd year students of the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University of the specialty "Linguistic support of intercultural communications (international tourism)" and students of the 1st and 3rd courses of the Russian International Academy of Tourism in the specialty "Hotel business". The lecturer actively interacted with students in English during the lecture, students were also able to ask questions to the lecturer.
