How did a graduate of a Belarusian university become a master's student of Chinese?

After completing my master's degree at our university, I received another unique opportunity that no one can refuse - to study in the specialty that interests me in the master's program of a partner university. Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages E.V. Sazhina told me about the grant. I applied for an interview, successfully passed it and was accepted to the course.

Tell us about the features of studying in China, about the knowledge that you acquired?

The educational process in China is different from ours. For example, we ourselves choose the subjects that we want to study. There are also no marks that we are accustomed to, no permanent group composition, and a class can last three hours. During my studies, I advanced in learning Chinese (this is quite a difficult task), and gained advanced knowledge in an already familiar field. But I want to say that I already had strong basic knowledge, since the teaching staff at GSU named after F. Skorina is very strong.

Share your impressions of communicating with Chinese students and teachers?

Chinese teachers and students are very friendly. Classmates offer help if such a need arises. In addition, a large number of Russian-speaking foreigners from different countries of the world study at the university, with whom communication is easy and quick to establish.

What is a Chinese dormitory like? How is it different from ours?

I live in a dormitory for foreign students on campus. The conditions are very good. What is unusual for me is the separate payment for hot water and heating.

How do you plan to use the knowledge and experience gained in your future career? If I say that I have clearly defined the goal of my professional life, it will be disingenuous. I think this will become clear closer to the end of my master's degree. For now, I would like to gain maximum knowledge, advance in learning Chinese, and then, with a good baggage of acquired knowledge, choose the right vector for building a career.

Your advice to Belarusian students who are planning to study in China?

Firstly, I advise you to be prepared for difficulties. China is a country with its own rules, an unusual way of life for us, and peculiarities of mentality. Secondly, I advise you not to have illusions about a cloudless move - it will take a lot of time to integrate into Chinese society. China has a fully automated payment system, and you will have to figure this out thoroughly. I recommend studying which applications work in China and which do not. However, everything can be solved. China is a wonderful country, whose culture is impossible not to fall in love with. There are many opportunities for an interesting life and productive learning. I sincerely wish my fellow countrymen good luck in entering universities in China. Believe in yourself and you will succeed!
