History reference
The Faculty of Physics and Information Technologies (until April 2017 - the Faculty of Physics) is the oldest at the university, and came from the Department of Physics and Mathematics of Agricultural Institute which was established in 1929. In 1969, the Faculty of Physics became a structural unit of Gomel State University. The oldest department at the faculty is the Department of General Physics, which became the basis for the creation of the whole faculty. The Department of Theoretical Physics was opened in 1964. The history of the Department of Radiophysics and Electronics began with the specialization "Radiophysics" at the Department of Theoretical Physics in 1969 and in 1972 an independent department was formed on the basis of this specialization. The Department of Optics was organized by the Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Belarus B.V. Bokut in 1974. The Department of Automated Information Processing Systems is the youngest at the faculty. In 1988, the Department of TSPEI of the Faculty of Economics was reorganized and the Department of AIPS was opened at the Faculty of Physics.
