Today, Professor of the Department of Botany and Plant Physiology, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Alexander Mikhailovich Dvornik celebrates his 70th anniversary. A scientist whose name is included in the encyclopedia of famous scientists of the world. Alexander Dvornik was born in Gomel into a family of civil servants, studied at secondary school No. 26. In 1972, he graduated from the physics department of Gomel State University and stayed to work at the department of theoretical physics. On the recommendation of the Dean of the Faculty of Physics, Associate Professor V.N. Starikov and the head of the department, professor N.V. Maksimenko he was sent for an internship at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna, Moscow Region). He worked in the field of high energy physics. In 1988 at the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute he defended his thesis of the candidate of physical and mathematical sciences in the specialty "Experimental Physics". From 1983 to 1991 he worked at the Department of Theoretical Physics at the Gomel State University.
The disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant radically changed the direction of Alexander Mikhailovich's research: as a nuclear specialist he contributed to minimizing its consequences. In 1991 Alexander goes to work at the Forest Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Here he was the only physicist among foresters and biologists. He began to engage in mathematical modeling of biological processes. Under the leadership of Alexander Mikhailovich, a mathematical predictive model of the behavior of radionuclides in forest ecosystems FORESTLIFE was developed, which implements a system of radioecological assessment of ecosystems after large-scale nuclear accidents. The model has received scientific recognition in the near and far abroad and is currently being developed.
In the period from 1995 to 2002 Alexander Mikhailovich was an IAEA international expert in the field of forest radioecology. He took part in the development of international recommendations for the rehabilitation of territories contaminated with radionuclides after nuclear accidents. In 1998 he defended his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Biological Sciences on the topic "Radioecological assessment of forest ecosystems after nuclear accidents: methodology, modeling, forecast". The results of the scientific activity of Alexander Mikhailovich Dvornik found practical application in regulatory and guidance documents for the regulation of radiation safety and radiation control during forestry operations.
The entire working life of Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Alexander Mikhailovich Dvornik is connected with the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University. Even during his work at the Forest Institute, he did not break off ties with the university. Since June 2003, Alexander Mikhailovich has been working as a professor at the Faculty of Biology. Alexander Mikhailovich reads general courses in biophysics and radiation safety, as well as special courses for students. His name is included in the encyclopedia of famous scientists of the world "Who is who 2004", who made an outstanding contribution to the development of world science and society. Based on the results of scientific achievements, the International Biographical Center in Cambridge (England) awarded Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Alexander Mikhailovich Dvornik the honorary title of "International Scientist of the Year 2004". The American Biographical Institute awarded the Belarusian scientist a gold medal of honor.
Alexander Dvornik is the author of over 180 scientific and scientific-methodical works, including two monographs. Has 10 domestic and foreign copyright patents for inventions. He has numerous certificates and encouragements, including a diploma of the Gomel Regional Council of Deputies (2000), a certificate of honor of the Forest Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (2003) and a certificate of the Ministry of Education (2007).
We sincerely congratulate Alexander Mikhailovich on his anniversary. We wish him good health and further creative success, and express our deepest gratitude for his conscientious work and dedication to his work.
