It is impossible not to take into account the high role of linguistics in human life. Linguistics helps us to express our thoughts correctly both orally and in writing. Having high knowledge in the field of language, people show their literacy and can translate texts. Any person who aspires to climb the career ladder should have not only narrow-profile knowledge, but also a fairly strong knowledge of linguistics. Therefore, issues related to the development of linguistic studies are considered annually at international scientific conferences, which are regularly attended by teachers of the Faculty of Foreign Languages of our university.
On October 20, the Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Elena Sazhina, spoke at the International Scientific Conference "Semantic potential of language units and its implementation" with a report on the topic "Topic-emotive vocabulary and its pragmatic potential in the polemical discourse of print media". The conference was held on the basis of the Minsk State Linguistic University, with which the named faculty maintains warm friendly relations and regularly organizes joint scientific and educational projects.
Linguists from far and near abroad discussed a number of issues related not only to the functioning of the language, but also its transformation under the influence of various extra linguistic factors. The key issues were such as the semantic potential of lexical and grammatical units, the implementation of the semantic and pragmatic potential of language units in various types of discourse, the language sign in the linguistic and cultural paradigm, and others.
We express our gratitude to the organizers and participants of the conference for their fruitful work and interesting reports.
