Moscow City Pedagogical University organized an online lecture by Professor Karen Hewitt of Oxford University within the framework of international cooperation with the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University. The lecture was attended by teachers of the Faculty of Foreign Languages.
Karen Hewitt is the chief coordinator of academic exchanges at the Institute of Slavic Studies at Oxford University, a lecturer in English literature at Kellogg College. She is the author of a large number of works on the development of English and Russian literature.
The lecture was devoted to one of the topical issues of modern literary criticism – historical fiction: "Why has historical fiction become such a significant literary phenomenon in British writing in recent years?". During the lecture, the Professor talked about her own research and compared such works as "War and Peace" by Lev Tolstoj, " Old Mortality " by Walter Scott, " The French Lieutenant's Woman " by John Fowles, "Master Georgie" Beryl Bainbridge and others.
After the lecture, an interesting discussion took place among the audience, the main coordinator of which was the professor herself. This event was held at a high level and the knowledge shared by Professor Karen Hewitt will undoubtedly be reflected in literature classes, during meetings of the literary club, as well as in scientific articles by teachers of the Department of Theory and Practice of the English language.
