From October 27 to 28, the II International Congress "Language Policy of the Commonwealth of Independent States" was held in Almaty. Organizers and partners of the Congress are Federal Agency "Rossotrudnichestvo", Pushkin State Russian Language Institute, Kazakhstanian Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature, Russian house in Almaty.
The main purpose of the congress was to discuss effective practices for harmonizing the language situation in a multilingual, multicultural and multi-confessional state. An important task, according to the general opinion, was to find new directions for the development and improvement of the conditions of interaction on the same territory of state, native languages and languages of interethnic communication.
The participants of the International Congress were representatives of scientific, educational and public organizations from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine.
Doctor of Philology, Head of the Department of Russian, General and Slavic Linguistics E. V. Nichiporchik made a report on behalf of the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University to the participants of the congress. E.V. Nichiporchik stressed that in order to find a balance in a multilingual and multi-confessional space, it is important to unite the interests of the parties entering into a cultural dialogue.
