November 24, by the Department of the History of Belarus of the Faculty of History and Intercultural Communications of the F.Skorina Gomel State University the International History Olympiad "World Wars in the History of Mankind" was held in on the eleventh time. 110 participants from 15 higher educational institutions of Belarus, Ukraine, and Russia took part in it. Students and citizens of Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan competed in the Olympiad. The event was held remotely using information and communication technologies.
The content of the questions touched upon the problems of the First and Second World Wars, was focused on updating knowledge on the military-historical past and countering falsifications of world history. The tasks voiced the key themes of the largest battles, the most important dates and events, the exploits of heroes who fell in the fight against fascism, as well as perpetuating the memory of the First and Second World Wars. The Olympiad traditionally attracts participants from institutions of higher education in Belarus (Gomel, Mozyr, etc.), Russia (Novozybkov, Smolensk), Ukraine (Chernihiv). For the first time among the contestants were students from Pskov State University, A.S.Pushkin Brest State University, Ya.Kupala Grodno State University
The winner of the competition among history students was the team of the F.Skorina Gomel State University (Faculty of History and Intercultural Communications). Among the students of non-historical specialties, the first place was shared by the teams of Gomel State Medical University, F.Skorina Gomel State University (Faculty of Foreign Languages) and Gomel branch of the University of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus. The first place among foreign students and foreign students studying in the Republic of Belarus was taken by the team of Smolensk State University.
The Olympiad has been held for many years due to the lively interest of young people in the history of military conflicts and the importance of promoting peace and cooperation between people. It contributes to improving the quality of the educational process at universities, the formation of a civic position among the younger generation.
