Violetta Beloded, a teacher of Chinese language and graduate student of the Department of Russian, General and Slavic Linguistics completed an internship in Shanghai and visited the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences.
The main objectives of the trip were to enhance her scientific and pedagogical qualifications in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, conduct research in gender linguistics, improve skills in oral foreign language communication that are necessary for research and teaching Chinese language.
“One can study Chinese language throughout their entire life discovering new facets with age. In my opinion, the main challenge of Chinese lies in its abundance of idiomatic expressions and cultural references which are difficult to learn in isolation from the language environment. I believe that for teachers of any foreign language it is important not only to maintain the current language level but also to continuously strive for improvement. International internships play a significant role in the development of professional skills. I am pleased that Belarusian universities actively collaborate with Chinese institutions providing our students with the opportunity to go to China for internships. This is truly crucial in the process of learning and teaching Chinese language. We hope that such cooperation will continue in the future. This trip has been a valuable life experience and has inspired me to further study Chinese language”.
